Volunteering, Interning, and Mentoring

Donating
Soft Landing Fund:
Refugees only receive a one-time allocation of $1,175 per person to cover initial resettlement expenses and this amount remains the same regardless of where in the country they are resettled. The majority of refugees arriving in Northern California are joining family members who are often not yet financially stable themselves. As a result, the refugees served by the International Rescue Committee in Northern California typically require additional financial support as they get on their feet in the United States.
You can help! The Soft Landing Fund provides housing assistance for refugees who have arrived in the last six months. One hundred percent of your donation will be disbursed to refugee families in need of support with rent and utilities. You can donate to the Soft Landing Fund here.
Gift cards:
Gift cards are incredibly empowering, as they refugees and other survivors of conflict the ability to choose the goods they purchase--a luxury they didn't have while living in refugee camps. You can provide gift cards directly to IRC families in the Central Valley through our Amazon Wish List.
In-Kind Donations:
In-kind donations help provide a warm and welcoming home to refugees upon their arrival in the U.S. Additional supplies, such as school and work bags, help provide newly arrived refugees the tools they need to integrate and achieve self-sufficiency. The IRC in Turlock/Modesto accepts the below listed items, in new or good condition, with consultation from the Volunteer and Donations Team.
