Emma began volunteering with the IRC in Garden City in May, 2017. As an Administrative Assistant who spends two half-days a week at the office, Emma performs many tasks that are critical in helping staff and clients. Along with assisting staff with special projects, Emma is the first person to greet clients and welcome them to the office. She also coordinates with staff to make appointments and serves as a Burmese interpreter.
When asked why she volunteers with the IRC, Emma states: “I came as a refugee…to me it is important to help the new refugees.”
We are inspired and thankful for Emma’s dedication to making #RefugeesWelcome in our community.
The IRC is actively searching for more Administrative Assistants. Please call 620.805.5281 to begin the process, or keep an eye out on our Facebook page for the date of our next community information session.
