From all of us at the IRC in Atlanta, we would like to say a huge and heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who donated to our GAgives on #GivingTuesday campaign! Thanks to your generous support, we exceeded our goal of raising $35,000 from individuals in the month of November and collectively raised an impressive $38,665, with gifts still coming in!
Special thanks to The John and Teresa McLean Family Fund for their generous matching gift and helping us to kick-off the campaign strong, and to our friends at Raging Burrito for hosting us for a #GivingTuesday dinner and donating a generous 15% of proceeds towards our fundraising goal.
The support of our Atlanta community is more important than ever. We continue to welcome 1,000 newly arriving refugees each year to safe new homes in Georgia in addition to providing essential services and programs to over 4,000 new American neighbors who already call our state home.
Funds raised for #GivingTuesday will provide:
- $10,000 for Career Development Scholarships to support refugees and immigrants—like Sandrine—in the pursuit of medical careers—as Dental Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, Pharmacy Technicians, and Phlebotomists!
- $10,000 for Emergency Rental Assistance for newly arriving asylum seekers and refugees—especially those with high medical needs.
- $2,000 for Childcare Outdoor Play Equipment—our Adult Education program provides childcare for children under five while their parents learn English. We have a new outdoor play area in need of toddler-sized slides and climbing toys for the spring!
- And essential unrestricted funding to be used where it's most needed, for emergencies, staffing, resources, and supplies.
Thank you again for your generosity and welcoming spirit, and for making a powerful impact as we kick off the year-end fundraising season. It’s not too late to make a tax-deductible gift to support refugees and immigrants in Georgia, you can donate securely online here, or mail a check to 2305 Parklake Drive NE, Ste 100, Atlanta, GA 30345.
