Hamed arrived in the United States on December 11, 2021, alongside his older sister Shabnam. Landing in a new country was overwhelming, especially for two young people who did not speak English, however the siblings were eager and filled with determination to begin their new life. Both siblings enrolled in IRC's San Diego Newcomer Project (SDNP) later that same month. Through the IRC, Hamed and Shabnam enrolled in English classes, obtained drivers’ licenses and work permits, and enrolled in the Urban Corps program of San Diego County.

Motivated by his passion for education and the desire to support his family, Hamed sought guidance from IRC’s Employment Specialist and subsequently enrolled in the Urban Corps High School Diploma program. Through the Urban Corps, Hamed not only obtained work experience, but also graduated with his high school diploma on June 16th 2022. Hamed's dedication and high performance shone through in both his studies and work, earning him the prestigious titles of Corps-Member of the Month and Corps-Member of the Year!

Hamed now serves as a crew leader, providing new hire orientation and working as an interpreter. He has become a role model for newcomers, sharing his experiences to motivate and inspire newcomers to join the Urban Corps, and even speaking as a featured presenter at Taste of the IRC 2023! His journey serves as a testament to the power of determination, resilience, and seizing opportunities, inspiring others to overcome challenges and strive for their dreams.
