Each year, the IRC hosts a job fair to connect immigrants with employment opportunities at companies who want to provide jobs to refugees. Leading up to the event, IRC staff updated resumes and trained refugees on how to pitch their experience and skills and interact with employers at a job fair. Thanks to a donation from Suited for Change, the IRC outfitted attendees with professional clothing to wear the day of the event.
Employers from an array of industries came to find reliable, hard-working individuals who would like to grow within their organization and for some, to provide advanced training to refugees to develop skills in a specific industry. Some employers, like Panda Express and Nothing Bundt Cakes, were new to working with refugees, while others have provided employment opportunities for refugees for over 13 years, like First Team Staffing. Both groups share a desire to help the community and give refugees an equal opportunity to be successful and be able to provide for their families.
This year’s event was a major success with 120 refugees and 12 employers in attendance. Since the fair, 33 refugees secured interviews and 8 received job offers. Thanks to all the companies who attended the event for their cooperation providing jobs to refugees!
