Each year, the IRC in San Diego raises funds to provide local refugee youth with scholarships to help support first-year college costs. From books and supplies to laptops, heading to college comes with many new expenses. Scholarships help relieve some of that burden for new students and their families, providing a little extra support that may help reduce student's feeling pressure to work during their first year. They have worked incredibly hard since arriving in the United States to catch up on their education, establish goals and dreams for their futures, and learn about the college admissions process.
Thanks to over 40 generous donors, over $7,500 was raised this year and distributed in scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,200 to ten deserving recipients. We are so proud of all of them for their accomplishments, and look forward to the positive impact they are sure to have in their community and beyond in the years ahead as they continue on their path to success.
