14 of the 15 scholarship recipients are young, ambitious and outstanding refugee women who are not only dedicated to getting an education but also bettering and advocating for their communities.

For the first time in its history, the IRC in San Diego provided $15,000 in scholarship awards to 15 refugee youth as part of the 2019 Refugee Youth Scholarship Fund campaign. The scholarship was created to break down barriers to higher education such as the cost of college itself– tuition, books, transportation and food. This year's scholarship recipients are attending two-year and four-year colleges and universities across the country in the hope of getting a quality education in a field they are passionate about and in the effort to build a better and brighter future for themselves.
