Notable changes
- $50 discount for certain online filings;
- Biometrics fees (which were previously listed as a separate fee) will be included in the application fee for most applications;
- 50% reduction in the fee for an I-765 application for work authorization if the applicant pays the full fee for a concurrently filed or pending adjustment of status application;
- Eligibility criteria for fee waivers and expanded fee exemptions - including for humanitarian benefits such as T, U, VAWA, SIJS and Afghan and Iraqi SIV-related benefits, among others – are now confirmed in the new rule.
Effect on naturalization
As the new fee rule “bundles” the former biometric services fee together with the Form N-400 fee, the cost for filing the Form N-400 on paper will increase from $725 to $760. If applicants file online, the new filing costs will essentially be reduced to $710. For applicants who qualify for “reduced cost” Form N-400 filing, and where the biometrics services fee will be “bundled,” the filing costs will decrease from $405 to $380. Other things to note:
- Form I-912 Requests for Fee Waivers and I-942 Requests for the Reduced Naturalization Fee are not available for online filings.
- The eligibility for the I-942 reduced naturalization fee is expanded from 200% of the poverty income level to 400%.
