IRC Atlanta staff say thank you for our new vans!

From all of us here at the IRC in Atlanta, we want to say a heartfelt thank you for your generous and expedient response to our summer appeals! We are thrilled to report that we collectively raised over $52,000 towards the purchase of two much-needed vans and other emergent needs, doubling our capacity to serve our new American neighbors and ensuring the IRC fleet is safe and fully operational. Thank you so much to all who donated, and special thanks to long-time IRC supporters, Dave and Mary Jane Kirkpatrick, for their incredible matching gift.

It’s not too late to give and invest in the work of welcoming refugees to rebuild their lives in Georgia. In the first quarter of fiscal year 2025—starting October 1—we expect to welcome between 465 and 540 new arrivals, and we can’t do this work without you!

More heartfelt thanks to each of you who thoughtfully shopped for and packed up school bookbags to share with newly arriving refugee children in response to our ‘Back 2 School’ Supply Drive! The IRC in Atlanta expects to welcome up to 700 school-aged children to Georgia across the upcoming fiscal year and your generosity makes a huge difference in the welcome these families receive.

IRC supporters donate bookbags for newly arriving children

We are excited to announce that we have received more than 550 backpacks so far, and it’s not too late to provide a backpack for a newly arriving student—you can find the packing list here and contact [email protected] if you or your group or company would like to drop off school supplies throughout the year. We’d like to give a special shout out to Yom Ice Cream who provided frozen treats for supporters on the day of the event and to Melanin MoneyMIO Partners Inc., Arjun Kaicker, and Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta (UUCA), who collected and contributed a large number of backpacks towards this drive.

This has been a historic year in refugee resettlement and humanitarian aid. We're on track to welcome over 1,500 individuals by the end of September, marking the largest number of arrivals in any given year since the IRC in Atlanta was founded in 1979. We are deeply grateful for your steadfast support of our mission and the people we serve.

Thank you again!
