With support from the IRC and St. Thomas Catholic Church, refugees who have fled war and persecution grow nutritious foods at Namaste Community Garden in Tukwila.
The spring season officially began with an inaugural garden work party on a rainy Saturday in early April. Community volunteers and gardeners came together to reconstruct fences, build a new greenhouse, and spread compost and woodchips throughout the garden. The garden is comprised 100 plots, which are 300 square feet in size.
New Roots programs like the Namaste Community Garden not only allow refugees to provide fresh food for their families and neighbors, but they also help bring refugees together to share experiences and feel a connection to their new home.
Thank you to our partners at St. Thomas for their continued support of this important initiative and to all of the volunteers who helped kick off the growing season!
