To our Iowa community, 


Having been with the Iowa team since our opening in June 2022, I'm continuously impressed by the expertise and dedication of our staff, the resilience of the families we serve, and the incredible support the IRC receives from people like you.

Today, I'm reaching out as I reflect on recent events and how they will impact the families served by the IRC in Iowa.  

I recognize that harmful rhetoric and counterproductive policy proposals have created tension and division in communities across the country including here in Iowa. No matter your political affiliation, I’m confident we both understand the need to ensure the safety, dignity and wellbeing of the families the IRC serves and who are now our newest neighbors whether it be in Des Moines, Iowa City, or other communities across Iowa.  

At the IRC in Iowa, we believe in the strength of collaboration, of building welcoming communities, and of putting the people we serve first. You continue to be an integral part of our efforts: as an IRC supporter, your daily actions and engagement boost our resolve to remain steadfast as we help refugee and immigrant families rebuild their lives in the U.S.

Together, we remain hopeful and resilient, understanding that as a community we can embrace inclusive solutions and honor the United States' longstanding commitment to provide safety to people fleeing persecution and conflict.

In the days, months and years ahead, our mission will remain the same: to help people whose lives & livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster, including the climate crisis—to survive, recover and rebuild their lives.
