The IRC Wichita is currently looking for volunteers to mentor both individual clients and families. Career mentors provide support for IRC clients as they adapt to the workplace in the United States. Through participatory activities, mentors work with the IRC’s employment specialist and clients. Activities support clients on the path to employment and success in the American workforce.
Career Mentors assist clients throughout their job search and placement. Activities may include preparation for job interviews, practicing interview questions, transporting a client to a job interview, understanding workplace norms and customs and providing support and advice to clients during their initial weeks of employment.
Mentors are asked to work with clients 8-12 hours a month and to make at least a 6 month time commitment. Mentor and Mentee meetings may take place after normal business hours or on weekends to accommodate both parties’ schedules. Volunteers are asked to attend an information session, fill out an application and go through IRC’s background check process. To find out more about volunteering email, [email protected].
