Meet your neighbors, the Ruharara family!
The Ruhararas arrived about a year ago and have been building a new life in Idaho. Reflecting on their first months in Boise, they expressed thanks for the smooth transition facilitated by IRC staff and supporters. They especially enjoyed meeting with direct service staff and attending English classes.
Mr. and Mrs. Ruharara both work at Walmart and appreciate the respect and flexibility their jobs provide. This helps them maintain a good balance as they raise their eight children. They are grateful for their coworkers and boss who "treat them like family."
They love their house, which they now call "home." They don't take for granted having a safe place for family to come together at the end of the day. They delight in watching their kids play with neighborhood children and enjoy chatting outside with neighbors.
They share the same dreams with many Americans "to buy a home, own a car, wear nice clothes and travel." They remind themselves "not to rush and to be patient." Also to continue taking "small steps" toward their goals. They are teaching their children the importance of hard work and education, ambition to find good jobs, and to help in the community.
Today, Mr. Ruharara says with pride, "This is my home." Though the journey is not yet finished, they know with perseverance they will continue to build a strong and successful future.
