Refugees girl excel both on and off the field in GOALS summer program
The IRC’s Girls Outdoors Achieving Leadership in Soccer (GOALS) concluded its summer session for 2019 and will continue to provide refugee girls with support through the academic year. The 3-day a week, 6-week long summer program in City Heights focuses on team-building, emotion regulation, positive social skills, conflict resolution, and perseverance as a way of offering girls with a safe space to learn and grow.
IRC in San Diego launches first-ever Women's Business Breakfast
In partnership with Somali Family Services San Diego, IRC Business Counselors held the first session of a new initiative to support refugee and immigrant female entrepreneurs. The presentation gave participants an overview of what it takes to launch a business in San Diego.
Nine IRC clients complete Pharmacy Technician Training Program
The IRC held a graduation for participants of its Pharmacy Technician Training Program as part of the Career Development Department. This job training program enables program participants to develop a new skill set and break into the healthcare industry while getting on the path to self-sufficiency and economic independence.
IRC Food & Farming and Microentreprise Programs team up to launch first-ever Around the World Food and Arts Fair
On August 10th, the IRC in San Diego brought together immigrant and refugee vendors, small business owners and San Diego community members to celebrate diversity in a new community arts space and global marketplace called Pop on 30th. The event included delicious plates from Project CHOP, a job training and culinary arts program for refugee and low-income women.
