As of July 1, 2024, the IRC in Iowa is officially 2 years old! In just two years, the team has grown exponentially, new programs have been added, and we have opened a second office in Iowa City. We are so grateful to be working hard for our clients and the communities that we serve!
Because of the hard work put in every day, over the past 2 years, we have:
- Helped 447 refugees settle into new communities across Iowa (and more that have since moved away to settle permanently closer to family or friends),
- Secured housing for 146 families, moving them into permanent housing in an average of 5 weeks after arrival,
- Assisted 122 adults in securing jobs that help them pay for their basic needs,
- Supported the distribution of $98,209 in loans to build credit, buy cars, and achieve financial goals, while building up women’s financial empowerment by lending more than twice as much to women as we did to men,
These numbers are impressive for such a young office but only represent a portion of the dedication to this work every day that makes these statistics possible. Thank you to all of our staff, interns, volunteers, and supporters for helping us reach this milestone.
