In partnership with the Immigration Department at IRC Wichita, IRC Garden City has piloted a remote immigration program to serve clients and the broader community. Jennifer Kentner, one of IRC Garden City’s longest-serving volunteers, underwent training with the immigration staff in Wichita, and is now able to offer services for green cards, work authorizations, and citizenship.
Prior to Jennifer joining in the capacity of Immigration Intake Volunteer, the Garden City office did not have a full-time staff member solely dedicated to offering immigration services. As a result, many clients would travel to Wichita in search of these services.
With this new program, our office is able to provide a local service option for the most commonly-requested immigration appointments, specifically green card applications. Jennifer is able to complete the mandatory first step in immigration services by completing an in-depth intake form. This information is then input into an immigration database, where Wichita staff can access it and continue the process. Staff from the immigration department at IRC Wichita are present via phone or video conference for every immigration appointment in Garden City to offer guidance and answer questions.
Since beginning the program last month, our office has experienced a high rate of interest in these services. Immigration services are by appointment only, and can be scheduled by calling 620-805-5350.
