The COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately impacted refugee and immigrant communities in Maryland. Many refugees the IRC serves lost jobs or had their work hours cut, threatening their ability to provide for their families. One of the key needs identified by IRC clients is essential items for their children. To respond, the International Rescue Committee in Silver Spring partnered with Baby2Baby, a nonprofit organization that supplies necessities to children in need across the United States, to provide diapers and wipes to IRC clients.

On July 14th, 2021, a coalition of volunteers from the local community gathered in Silver Spring to deliver these items. Volunteers handed out 300 packs of wipes and 200 packs of diapers to 41 families. We are especially grateful to our partners Adas Israel and Temple Shalom for their support ensuring refugee families have access to essential baby items for their children.
