Delaney is majoring in international relations and civic honours. She is interested in non-profits and their role in civil society and connection to international relations. Delaney’s previous experience in the DREW WIOA program and service work in Honduras has drawn her to the education & learning department at IRC in NJ. Her roots in education have been instrumental in supporting clients participating in education programming.
Delaney has supported student ESL examinations, scheduling clients, and updated files to support case management during her internship. Delaney has applied her creative skills to make outreach flyers and general communication with clients more accessible.
Delaney has enjoyed supporting with class orientation and applying her Spanish language skills to help with translations. It was exciting switching from phone calls to having conversations with clients. She shares that while translations can be a challenge, it is essential to provide transparent communication and support so clients can make the most of their English language sessions.
The IRC’s Adult Education Coordinator has supported Delaney in this journey. Together with the Adult Education team housed in the Education & Learning department, we have overcome presenting shifts in programming. Some of these pivots include an increase in client arrivals, diverse English levels, and the need to optimize programming to accommodate these shifts.
Delaney has grown to be more confident in applying a cross-cultural approach to her work. She has learned to be courageous when approaching key challenges. Delaney always takes one step further to assist clients with ESL class enrollment, supporting online classes, and other related tasks.
