Recently, the current administration proposed an annual admissions ceiling for 2020 of 18,000 refugees. In addition, the federal Executive Order on enhancing State and Local Involvement in Refugee Resettlement, issued on September 26, 2019, requests written consent of states and localities to continue resettling refugees. While officials are still awaiting guidance on this process, we hope you will consider reaching out to your state and local officials to express your support for refugee resettlement to continue in Kansas.

Feel free to use the following text in your email contact.

Dear ______:

Since 2011 the International Rescue Committee in Wichita has greatly appreciated your support and the partnership of the community in the collective work of welcoming refugee newcomers under the federal US Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP). Together we welcomed 209 refugees last federal fiscal year, and these individuals are thriving in their new home with strong community support.

The federal Executive Order on Enhancing State and Local Involvement in Refugee Resettlement issued on September 26, 2019 requests written consent of states and localities to resettle refugees. While officials are still awaiting guidance on this process, I hope that when the time comes you will publically support refugee resettlement here in our community. In the meantime, any public statements of support or efforts to work with other officials to demonstrate support would be very helpful.

Thank you for your time and ongoing support of refugee resettlement.
