Eid Mubarak to all who celebrate! During the month of Ramadan, we stood with our clients, staff, and community members to honor this holy month as a time of reflection, discipline, and giving back. This year we had the incredible opportunity to partner with Valley Ranch Islamic Centers' Young Scholars Program, a division of their prestigious Quran school. Rakshi Mahmood, the manager of the Young Scholars Program reached out to the IRC hoping to connect so that the students of the program could participate in a food drive during the month of Ramadan.

Rakshi has been managing this new program for almost two years and she says it is important for her students to learn about kindness, humility, and faith through their studies. The Young Scholars Program focuses not only on Islamic studies, but also incorporates mindfulness, manners, and compassion. “The month of Ramadan we fast to not only connect with God, but to remember those who feel hunger, so that we can also understand their experience of hunger,” Rakshi said. “Thus, Ramadan is a time of humility and giving back to those less fortunate than us.”

Our IRC staff humbly accepted multiple boxes of food items from the intelligent and kind Young Scholar students at VRIC. We received items such as rice, beans, spices, and more, ensuring that our clients can enjoy their Ramadan with ease. We cannot thank this community partnership enough for the generous donations they provided. We want to give a huge shoutout to Rakshi and the entire VRIC Young Scholars staff for teaching these students about the importance of giving back, humility, and kindness during the month of Ramadan. They are creating world changers in their program. It is because of these students and the wonderful teachers that our Muslim clients can have food for Ramadan.

The most impactful part of this partnership with VRIC was that the young scholars wrote handwritten letters to the refugee families and the kids whom we serve. Families were blessed with boxes of food supplies, ingredients, and treats for their Ramadan. They were also given heartfelt handwritten notes along with the food items. We are humbled by their kindness and contribution. Thank YOU, Valley Ranch Islamic Center for all you have done and continue to do for our Dallas community and for our clients. Eid Mubarak to all!
