As the saying goes, “Everything is bigger in Texas”—and the GenR: Dallas Launch Party was certainly no exception.
The event, held at the Trinity River Audubon Center on September 28, hosted more than 140 guests and officially became the largest launch in GenR history!
The Trinity River Audubon Center served as a beautiful space for guests to mingle, listen to the live music of Madison King, take glamour shots in the photo booth, and enjoy a variety of food and drinks courtesy of local establishments. We are grateful to our many sponsors who donated their time, effort and delicious food and drinks. Together, they helped to make this night memorable.
The evening culminated in a powerful story from Nesreen Obaid, a refugee who was resettled by the IRC from Iraq. Nesreen shared how she used her experience as a refugee to empower newly resettled refugee women to learn how to navigate Dallas and their new lives here. We also heard inspiring words from our fearless GenR leaders about why they love GenR. The final crescendo to the night, however, was the “Symbolic Auction.” The energy in the room was palpable as guests pledgedover $9000 at the auction, with the event raising more than $40,000 towards the IRC’s refugee resettlement programs in Dallas. It was a humbling and extraordinary experience to see so many Texans ready to support refugees across our great state and country.
We are beyond excited for the future of GenR in Dallas!
