Back to School Bash provides IRC students with school supplies before the start of the school year
As any student knows, getting ready to head back to school is an exciting time for both students and parents and one of the hallmarks of going back to school is having new school supplies and even more so, a backpack to carry your school supplies in.
On August 15th, First Presbyterian Church hosted their second Back to School Bash. The Bash was an opportunity for all families being served by the IRC to come to the Church where they were able to pick out the backpack that they wanted and a volunteer helped the students pick out grade level appropriate school supplies. More than 30 refugee families attended the event.
The event was held at First Presbyterian Church and the church organized volunteers who picked the families up at the IRC and took them to the Church. Upon entering the church families were greeted by volunteers who helped them pick out their school supplies.
In addition to that, students were also given an opportunity to pick out several books to take home to get them started on their path to learning. The church organized several crafts and other activities for the children to participate in and lunch for the students and families.
We are thankful to the members of First Presbyterian Church for hosting this thoughtful event for children being served by the IRC.
