At 4:50am on March 15th, the day before the new Executive Order pausing the refugee program was set to go into effect, Nadia Hasan Madalo, her husband and their four children finally boarded a flight out of Iraq and began the journey to San Diego. They had been waiting four years to make the trip. Their oldest 21 year old son and Nadia's parents had already come a year earlier, although her father sadly passed away en route, and several of her brothers and cousins had been here for years. Their family was reunited just as a federal judge put the order on hold, giving thousands of other families the same chance.
