In December, community members demonstrated their commitment to welcoming refugees by sponsoring newly arrived families and individuals during the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Kansas' Adopt A Family drive.

More than 50 families, friends, church and civic groups came together to gather items refugee families had prioritized on their wish lists, such as vacuums, televisions, and household items. Over 55 newly arrived refugee families and individuals received donated items, amounting to more than $20,000 worth of in-kind donations that were collected and distributed during the month of December.

One recipient, a single mother, sent a thank you note saying, "I would never buy myself body cream. This is the first time I got new kitchenware, the first time I got a new pan or baking sheets, the first time my girls received a painting pad. In Syria, I had a kitchen full of many things, but I left it behind, and I can't reach it, even if it was kept for us. Thank you for bringing joy to us through this gift!"

We are grateful for community members who support our work and the refugees we serve each year! These donation efforts help as newly arrived refugees begin to take control of their futures and become self-sufficient in their new homes.
