With help from 17 community volunteers from the wealth management firm Brighton Jones, new Americans received one-on-one support building plans to achieve their financial goals at a recent workshop hosted at IRC. Participants each set personal saving goals, ranging from smaller purchases, like computers, to buying a home. With support from volunteers, participants also revised their budgets and created action plans for achieving their financial goals.
A huge thank you to our friends at Brighton Jones for all their help at the workshop! There are many ways you, too, can support the economic empowerment of newcomers:
- Become a professional mentor, offering individualized career planning and professional networking exposure in your field of expertise.
- Volunteer individually—or team up with friends or colleagues—to help with the IRC’s economic empowerment programs on an ad hoc or ongoing basis.
- Partner with the IRC to provide career opportunities through your company or help fund IRC programs that allow newcomers to achieve their career & financial goals.
- And be sure to check out the IRC's RescueWorks report, which explains why welcoming refugees and other newcomers into the labor market contributes to the economic vitality of entire communities.
