Did you know that after living in the United States for five years, refugees can apply to become U.S. citizens? The IRC's immigration team helps refugee and immigrant community members achieve this major milestone.
On October 11th, with the support of more than 20 volunteers from AirBnB, the IRC hosted its biggest Citizenship Workshop to date. The goal was to offer free services to twenty community members, but due to the hard work of volunteers and staff, an outstanding forty-six citizenship applications were prepared! Workshop participants also received free tutoring and materials to help study for the naturalization exam.
There was such an enthusiastic showing of support from AirBnb that half of the volunteers also assisted with an apartment set-up for a refugee family from Afghanistan scheduled to arrive later that week. And as if that weren’t enough, volunteers also helped assemble office furniture until closing time – now that’s dedication!
Thank you so much to our volunteers from AirBnB for making the Citizenship Workshop – and more! – such a big success.
