How to become an IRC volunteer

IRC Miami is actively recruiting volunteers to assist in our services to immigrant youth and survivors of human trafficking. Please follow the steps below to connect with one of our volunteer coordinators.

Volunteer process

  1. Apply: If you are interested in volunteering in Miami, please click here to fill out our volunteer application form. For opportunities in Tallahassee, click here. If you are interested in an internship opportunity with the IRC, contact [email protected]. Please note that the minimum commitment for IRC volunteer and intern positions range from three to six months.

  2. Interview and Background Check: Once we receive your completed application, a staff member will contact you for next steps. A background check is required for all client-facing opportunities, which may take up to two weeks to process. Please note: The IRC in Miami respectfully requests that you contribute $51 towards its cost.

  3. Orientation and Training: Once the background check process is complete, volunteers are required to participate in an orientation and training with an IRC staff member. This should serve as an introduction to IRC Miami programs, policy and procedures, and specifics of the volunteer opportunity.

Additional information

  • You must be 16 years or older to volunteer and complete a background check with parental consent.
  • Volunteer hours must be tracked and documented.
