Northern Central America continues to experience a protracted humanitarian crisis, and the UN reports that more than 800,000 people are in need of protection services. The International Rescue Committee serves individuals and families in El Salvador who survive violence and displacement, as well as people who are at high risk of displacement, returnees, migrants and refugees. IRC and our partners implement programmes that provide immediate support such as information, cash transfer for food and shelter and psychological first aid. IRC El Salvador provides case management to women and child survivors of violence; operates safe spaces for women, children and the LGBTQ+ population; and works with national NGOs to implement proven community programs to reduce the risk of violence.
In Central African Republic (CAR), 1 million people have been displaced by ongoing conflict. The International Rescue Committee has assisted CAR throughout its current crisis despite the high risk to aid workers. We provide medical care, water and sanitation services, and protection for vulnerable women and girls.
