What percentage of displaced people are children under the age of 18?
Nearly half—40%—of all displaced people are children.
How many refugees are hosted in low- or middle-income countries?
Only a small portion of the world’s 43 million refugees (displaced people who have actually left their country) go to the United States or Europe. Of the 30 million people who have left their countries, 69% are hosted in low- or middle-income countries. 70% are living in countries that neighbor their own.
How many children are born as refugees every year?
Between 2018 and 2022, an average of 385,000 children were born as refugees per year.
How many people did IRC reach last year through our programs?
The IRC reached 34.5 million people in countries affected by crisis in 2023.
