The IRC is on the ground across Europe working with governments, municipalities and local organisations to meet the immediate and critical needs of those seeking refuge, and to support the effective integration of refugees into their new communities.
The IRC has offices in Berlin, Bonn, Brussels, Geneva and London, and in partnership with the Netherlands Refugee Foundation, also has a presence in the Hague. The IRC’s European programmes are run out of Athens, Berlin, Belgrade and Bonn.
The IRC in London
Our team in London works to raise profile, deliver policy and practice change, and increase funding to help people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and reclaim control of their future.
The IRC in Brussels
Our Brussels team leads on the IRC's engagement with the European Union institutions. The Brussels office seeks to drive policy change on the refugee crisis in Europe and globally, and to ensure that EU funding for the global refugee crisis is targeted effectively.
The IRC works in collaboration with other Brussels-based NGOs to coordinate advocacy work and maximise impact. We are a member of Voluntary Organisations in Cooperation in Emergencies (VOICE), the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE), the Human Rights and Democracy Network (HRDN).
The Brussels office was established in 2001.
The IRC in Berlin and Bonn
The IRC’s team in Germany is responsible for leading our engagement with the German government, civil society organisations and leading think tanks on global humanitarian assistance.
The IRC in Germany is also part of our Europe programme response, providing expert guidance on refugee integration, including the most impactful ways in which to integrate refugees into the German classroom and the workforce.
Our office in Germany was established in July 2016.
The IRC in Geneva
First established in 1956, the IRC’s Geneva office acts as liaison with Geneva-based humanitarian institutions, most significantly the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). It also represents the IRC in various fora together with UN specialised agencies, UN member states, intergovernmental organisations, nongovernmental organisations and NGO consortia. The team based in Geneva also provides technical support to IRC programmes in the field.
